II‐VI Incorporated Showcases New Optical Amplifiers, Pump Lasers, Optical Monitors and Transceiver‐Embedded Components at OFC 2016

PITTSBURGH, March 14, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – II‐VI Incorporated (NASDAQ:IIVI), a leading provider of solutions for next generation optical networks, today announced that it will be exhibiting at the Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exhibition (OFC) in Anaheim, California, on March 22‐24, 2016, in Booth # 3809.

II‐VI will showcase a broad portfolio of optical communication products:

Intelligent Subsystems & Line Cards: II‐VI designs and manufactures line cards for next‐generation systems using a broad portfolio of small components and intelligent modules produced in‐house.
These line cards feature mature, stable and reliable software controls as well as differentiated optical monitoring methods, continually improving in performance and value.

Embedded Optical Monitoring: II‐VI offers the broadest range of embedded optical monitoring solutions. II‐VI’s channel monitors are the smallest in the world and capable of monitoring superchannels on a flexible grid. II‐VI’s new OCM features a dwell mode to enable advanced signal analysis on a selected channel. II‐VI’s new OTDR+ platform, designed with patent‐pending technologies, performs sensitive fault location measurements using very low optical power.

Vertically Integrated Optical Amplifiers: II‐VI designs and manufactures optical amplifiers including the pump laser chips and the micro‐optics. The new 1 W pump laser is capable of replacing pairs of lower power modules, enabling cost‐effective, more thermally efficient and environmentally conscious designs. The cooled dual‐chip pump laser delivers 2 x 810 mW of optical power to meet the most demanding arrayed or multi‐stage amplifier designs.

Transceiver‐Embedded Amplifiers & Components: II‐VI offers the most complete portfolio of small, hybrid and tunable optical components designed to meet the compact physical requirements of high density transceivers. The new 8‐pin uncooled 980 pump lasers feature 80 μm diameter tightbend low‐loss fiber pigtails designed to fit in tight spaces.

Tunable Receivers & Burst‐Mode Amplifiers for NG‐PON2: For upstream TWDM PON links, II‐VI recently announced a prototype stage burst‐mode gain‐controlled optical amplifier. For downstream transmission, II‐VI has demonstrated a miniaturized tunable receiver that can be integrated in standard bidirectional optical subassemblies (BOSAs).

Products for Optical Switching & Wavelength Routing: II‐VI’s optical switches and flat‐top tunable filters for 50 GHz channel spacing are compact and cost‐effective solutions for wavelength routing and optical path‐protection switching at the edge of the network. The high port‐count MEMS optical switch is especially well suited for applications requiring frequent switching, such as when monitoring multiple points in the network.

II-VI Incorporated Ramps Volume Production of Low Noise Optical Amplifiers With Integrated Tunable Filters for 400 Gb/s DWDM Transponders


PITTSBURGH, March 07, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- II‐VI Incorporated (NASDAQ:IIVI), a leading provider of solutions for next generation optical networks, today announced that it is ramping up shipments of low noise optical amplifiers with integrated tunable filters for 400 Gb/s DWDM transponders.

High bit rate DWDM transponders enable interconnectivity among geographically dispersed datacenters. II-VI's low noise optical amplifiers improve the reach of 400 Gb/s DWDM transponders by boosting the optical power of the transmitted signal with high fidelity thanks to an integrated wavelength-tunable optical noise filter.

Higher transmission rates increase the difficulty of distinguishing optical signal from noise at the receiver. Tunable optical filters improve 400 Gb/s transmission by filtering out amplified spontaneous emission (ASE), the most significant contributor of optical noise.

II-VI designs and manufactures in house a complete portfolio of miniature hybrid micro-optics, tunable optical components and 980 nm pump lasers to achieve vertically integrated optical amplifier solutions. Low noise optical amplifiers are Telcordia qualified at the individual component level and as a module. They are commercially available as a full assembly or in various sub-assembly configurations.
